The Brotherhood has been built in 1527 in Traspontine in
Rome. In 1870 it took care of the organization of Carmine's
festivity which is celebrated on July 16th with its relative procession.
Since the beginning of the 20th century the Solemnity in honour of the
Blessed Virgin Mary of Carmel Mount became the chief festivity of the Borgo
and Prati popolous district.
During the last thirty-forty years this special celebration
didn't arouse so much the interest of people, so it gradually disappeared.
The last big Jubilee 2000 represented for us all a powerful
and important religious and associative event. From our personal point
of view we tested the significative vitality of the Church.
Besides, the 2001 represents the 750th anniversary of
Scapolar's gift to the Carmelitan Order!
Which best occasion to recover that special tradition
so important for the whole Christianity!
Talking about that, together with some of our Parish
followers, came out the purpose to do something in order to recover that
tradition.
The opportunity came when some followers of Traspontina,
already members of Trastevere's Brotherhood, expressed to me their wish
of making rise the Brotherhood also in our Parish.
"I'm really glad" -I replied- "Let's look for other consents.
If we'll find enough, on next July we could stick again the Machine of
the Virgin Mary in the Carmelitan procession".
Beyond twenty men adhered within few weeks. On Sunday
15th of July, on the procession's day there were 35 men. Other fellowmembers
from Arcibrotherhood in Trastevere joined them; so all together eventually
united by the common Mother and Sister they made their wishes come true.
But the Brotherhood is not constituted yet.
There's the necessity of a Statute with particular spiritual
and operative finalities in order to constitute it juridically.
From next October, monthly, we'll gather all together
for a sort of "Novitiate", that will culminate on July through an
official rite of adhesion. In this way, eventually, the Brotherhood in
the Parish of S.Mary in Traspontine in Rome will be a reality.
